I had the thrill of executing Anastasia's Mate against a tough opponent in the Spring Marathon tournament. This rare and beautiful checkmate pattern is a dream for many chess players, and I feel fortunate to have achieved it. In this post, I'll take you through the game, sharing my thoughts, strategies, and insights.
The name of the opening Ruy Lopez:Open . Aiming to control the center and create space for my pieces to develop. The position remained balanced until I developed my Knight to c3 aiming for Nd5, when I spotted a weakness in my opponent's position.
I decided to launch a Knight storm on the kingside, aiming to break open the position and exploit the weak pawns.
As the position opened up, I needed to consider various tactical possibilities, including pins, forks, and skewers. I carefully calculated each move, ensuring that my pieces were coordinated and ready to strike. And as I was playing I remembered the ruy lopez mainline that led to the Anastasia's mate.
After a series of precise moves, I set up the classic Anastasia's Mate pattern. This is an achievement to me. It was a great checkmate for me plus, I performed it on a strong player.
